Functional Testing

Functional testing provides deeper insights into your mineral and nutritional status, gut, hormonal, and immune health, as well as your genetic blueprint. It can be a useful tool for preventative health purposes and can even help to uncover underlying dysfunction, when you have otherwise been told “everything is normal.”

Tests can involve blood, urine, saliva, or hair samples and are available for both adults and children. These evidence-based, private tests (not covered by Medicare nor private health rebates) are conducted through certified labs in Australia and the USA, with kits sent to your home for convenient sample collection.

Results are analysed in the context of your clinical presentation, symptoms, health medication and supplement use. While these tests go beyond standard GP testing, they are NOT diagnostic. Therefore, I always advise my patients to share their results and my treatment plan with their wider medical team for a comprehensive approach.

Before testing can be arranged a 1:1 Clinical Nutrition consultation is required to determine the most suitable test/s and to provide support throughout the process.

Functional Pathology Testing & Analysis

As a clinically trained professional who has undertaken extensive post-graduate training and accreditation in pathology analysis (including ODX Training and Certification) I look at your blood biomarkers through an optimal health lens. For anyone that’s been told ‘everything is normal’ on your blood tests, this can be an empowering and informative exercise, providing early insights and an actionable plan to address any potential nutrient deficiencies and organ dysfunction.

As part of this service, you will receive a personalised functional health report (30+ pages).

You can read more about the service I provide, here.

Frequently asked questions

Working With Me

Do I need a referral to access your services? +

No. You do not require a medical referral.

Do you see children? +

My journey into health started when I became a mum. I love working with kids (and big kids alike!). I also have a WWCC so please know that I have your children’s best interests at heart. I ask that anyone under the age of 18 is accompanied by their adult to all appointments.

How do I book in to see you? +

You can book me here, at HealthBank. You will be prompted to firstly set up an account, and once this is done, click on my profile and select the service you wish to book. Don’t forget to complete the onboarding questionnaire so that we can hit the ground running at your first appointment.

What about my Privacy? +

HealthBank is an Australian-owned and run, cloud-based, patient management system. All of your information, from the time you sign up, to the files we share, the emails we send to each other and the notes I take from our consultations are stored there. Your telehealth appointment (if applicable) takes place on HealthBank’s server via a secure virtual consultation room.

Let’s talk consent +

Your face-to-face appointment generally includes a physical assessment. I will always ask for your permission to do so and it is at your discretion if you wish to skip this part of the assessment. Note: If you book a BIS Body Composition Assessment, this will involve physical touch (but no undressing is required).

What does a Clinical Nutritionist do? +

As a Clinical Nutritionist, I provide advice and treatment via dietary and lifestyle modifications. If indicated, I can arrange for functional testing and can also prescribe practitioner-grade supplements and nutrients.

Is a Clinical Nutritionist different to a Nutritionist? +

Being dual qualified as both a ‘nutritionist’ and a ‘clinical nutritionist’ has made me appreciate just how different these qualifications are. The benefit to you? When you come and see me, you get to tap into ALL my nutrition knowledge.

You can find more detailed information around the differences here and here.

Do I see you exclusively? +

If you’re open to it, and if and when it is applicable, it would be great to have a working relationship with the rest of your health care team (GP, specialists, and any other allied health care professionals that you see). While I can help with treating and advising on your diet and nutrition, we want to make sure that you have every aspect of your health covered. As a starting point, I recommend heading to your GP at least once a year for a blood test to track your health status and monitor for any deficiencies or excesses. This test is covered under Medicare, and also very useful for me to review.

Do you specialise in any particular area of health? +

I don’t specialise, and that is my superpower. Let me explain: From personal experience and in a professional capacity, I have found that confirmation bias can sneak up on us health professionals (that makes us see only what we expect, not necessarily the whole picture). This can lead to misdiagnosis/es or even delayed diagnosis of conditions; overtreatment or unnecessary interventions AND most importantly could contribute to limited consideration of holistic or interdisciplinary approaches to your health. What I can tell you is this. You and I will spend a considerable amount of time during your appointment understanding your health puzzle, so that I can provide with you a balanced, comprehensive care plan. What that means for you? No cookie cutter approach, no set and forget diet / nutrient / lifestyle prescription. You are constantly evolving and I am right there by your side making sure that your health plan is working for you, at all times.

What about weightloss? +

As a clinical nutritionist, I don’t prioritise weight loss as a treatment, instead I look at it as a side benefit. Once I help you address underlying issues, such as nutrient deficiencies, chronic health conditions or metabolic imbalances, sustainable weight management is often just around the corner.

How do you conduct your appointments? +

I offer both face-to-face consultations and telehealth. My preference, if you live locally, is to meet face-to-face for our first consultation. BIS appointments are delivered face-to-face only.

Are you available in-between appointments for any questions I may have? +

If you have any quick burning questions that come up after an appointment, you are welcome to contact me via HealthBank (as a registered client on there, you can send me an email directly). I will endeavour to reply within 1 business day. Alternatively, if your query requires more than a few minutes of my time, or is with regards to a new issue that has arisen since we last met, it’s best to book a follow up appointment.

Do you see patients from overseas?+

I consult with people from all over the world, except for the USA. Please be aware, that if you are based overseas, I will not be able to prescribe / send any nutrients or arrange any functional testing for you.

What about weightloss? +

I am a certified Metabolic Balance Practitioner, and have access to a plethora of tools and resources to help you with your body composition goals, whilst also ensuring that we look at the root cause of your weight challenges – and addressing things like insulin resistance, inflammation, digestive dysfunction and of course hormonal or immune complications.

You can learn more about the Metabolic Balance Program here

Are you available in-between appointments for any questions I may have? +

All clients have access to a secure and private messaging service via the Practice Better App and are encouraged to check in with any questions. If the answer can be covered in a quick response – please expect my reply within 2 business days. If the question is in relation to a new health issue / concern or requires a more detailed response, I will let you know to either book a short or long follow up appointment to ensure that your matter gets the attention it requires.

Do you see patients from overseas?+

I consult with people from all over the world, except for the USA.

The Metabolic Balance Program is only available to my Australian clients.

Please be aware that if you are based overseas, I am unable to prescribe / send nutrients or arrange functional testing for you. Your treatment plan will be limited to dietary and lifestyle interventions – but not too worry, because there is still so much we can do for you!

How do I book in to see you? +

You can make a booking to see me via Practice Better. Bookings can be made via your desktop or via the app, which is available through Android and Apple.
Remember I am available to meet with you via telehealth (select 'online' option) or if you are based in Sydney, we can meet face to face (select 'clinic' option).

What about my Privacy? +

I use Practice Better, a fully integrated practice management software, ensuring ALL of our communication is secure and private. Everything you share with me (onboarding information, pathology results, etc) and everything I share with you (treatment plans, handouts, recipe books, etc) is stored in your personal client portal.

If you have booked a telehealth appointment, that will take place via Practice Better. You will also have access to a secure messaging portal – so we can keep in touch between appointments.

What does a Clinical Nutritionist do? +

My scope of practice as a Clinical Nutritionist allows me to provide advice and treatment via dietary and lifestyle modifications. As a clinically trained nutritionist, I also hold a Therapeutic Goods Advertising Certificate of Exemption – that simply means that I am permitted to prescribe nutrients, at therapeutic doses.

I have also undertaken additional training in the areas of functional testing (covering numerous areas, including genetics, hormones, gut function, minerals & toxins) as well as functional pathology analysis (which is useful in determining optimal health outcomes, not just disease recognition).

Many of the private health fund companies in Australia recognise my qualification. Therefore, rebates may be available for your 1:1 Clinical Nutrition consultations with me, and some of the funds also offer a rebate on the Metabolic Balance program too.

Is a Clinical Nutritionist different to a Nutritionist and where does the title ‘Certified Clinical Nutritionist’ (CPN) fit in? And can you tell me what the distinction is between a CPN and a dietitian? +

First let’s tackle the question “Is a Clinical Nutritionist different to a Nutritionist?

Being dual qualified as both a nutritionist (Bachelor of Science, Nutrition Scient) and a ‘Clinical Nutritionist’ (Bachelor of Heath Science, Clinical Nutrition) has made me appreciate just how different these qualifications are.

The benefit to you? When you come and see me, you get to tap into ALL of my nutrition knowledge. Here is an article, if you wish to understand the differences better.

As a consumer – the most important thing to note, is that a Nutritionist has no clinical training, and should not be providing 1:1 health advice or treatment and definitely be wary if they prescribe you supplements. For all the things a ‘Clinical Nutritionist’ can do – see the question above.

Now to where a “Certified Clinical Nutritionist” fits in.

That is an additional credentialed title, that I also hold through AARPN (Australasian Association & Register of Practicing Nutritionists), as I have met (and continue to meet) a set of defined professional standards over and above my university training.

AARPN is an ordinary member of Allied Health Professions Australia and is also a full member of the National Alliance of Self Regulating Heath Professionals. CPN’s therefore hold distinct rights from regular Clinical Nutritionists, and can undertake work in the allied health space, including but not limited to Workforce Incentive Programs (WIP), National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Aged Care Support in the Home.

Confused yet? I know, it’s a lot to get your head around!

Now let’s talk through how dietitians (APDs – Accredited Practicing Dietitian’s specifically) and CPN’s operate in the health care space.

Firstly, both professions are grounded in evidence-based nutritional science, and both qualifications include a clinical practice element (ie worked in a clinical setting)

Both professions are required to hold a university qualification (AQF Level 7 or higher in either Clinical Nutrition or Nutritional Medicine for CPNs; AQF Level 7 or Level 9 in Dietetics for APDs); adhere to their organisation’s code of conduct and undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) every year to maintain membership

Neither ‘dietitian’ or ‘nutritionist’ are protected titles here in Australia, however, as mentioned above ‘CPN’ is a registered trademark, as is ‘APD’.

CPNs and APDs are self-regulating professions governed by their respective independent bodies (AARPN, DA). Neither group is registered with AHPRA (this is reserved for the likes of GPs, nurses, chiropractors and optometrists etc).

Now to the main differences (to help you decide which mode of care is appropriate for YOUR circumstances).

Dietetic services are sometimes eligible for Medicare rebates, subject to a GP’s clinical judgement, and at the moment, up to 5 Medicare subsidised allied health sessions per year (in total – NOT per allied health service) are allowed if you qualify for a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP). The current Medicare Rebate is $61.80 per session.

Dietitians provide dietary intervention based on a medical diagnosis and are typically referred by a GP. Their clinical training typically includes food service and hospital-based practice, meal planning and disease-specific dietary management. They do not hold formal prescribing rights under the Therapeutic Goods Act, and are generally limited to dietary advice and general supplement recommendations.

A dietetic assessment typically involves evaluating dietary intake, basic nutrition status checks and basic pathology interpretation. There is less emphasis on clinical examination and diagnostics, and there is limited therapeutic autonomy, as care often involves a referral or shared care arrangement.

CPN services are eligible for private health rebates, and we are included in various allied health programs (noted above in the previous answer, WIP, NDIS, Aged Care Support).

As primary care providers, CPNs provide independent, person-centred clinical assessment within our defined scope of practice. We are trained in clinical examination, clinical reasoning, differential diagnosis, pathology interpretation and functional testing. We initiate treatment independently, based on our clinical and nutritional assessments.

We receive in depth training in macronutrients, micronutrients, food chemistry and biochemical pathways. Our pharmacology knowledge ensures that we are able to safety prescribe therapeutic doses of nutrients (including ‘practitioner only’ products and custom nutritional supplements), whilst taking into account nutrient-nutrient interactions, as well as drug-nutrient interactions.

We receive training in lifestyle medicine, counselling and case management to ensure a whole-of-person approach.

The nutrition sector here in Australia can be complex and difficult to navigate! Hopefully the above helps to clear up some of the confusion and help you decide what level of care aligns best with your needs.

Pricing & Payment

Are your services covered under Medicare? +

No.

Can I claim rebates for your services with my Private Health Insurance? +

The below information is current as at March 2026, and is also subject to the level of cover that you hold.

Nutrition does not have HICAPS. Rebates can be claimed after you have paid for and attended your appointment (whereby I will provide you with an itemised statement, noting my provider number and relevant details).

1:1 Clinical Nutrition Appointments, can be claimed under the following private health cover companies (note where there is a * noted, these health funds also provide rebates for telehealth consultations)

  • Australian Health Management (AHM) *
  • Australian Regional Health Group Administered Funds (ARHG)
  • HBF Health*
  • Health Partners
  • Latrobe Health Services
  • Mildura Health Fund
  • Phoenix Health Fund
  • See-U by HBF*
  • St Lukes Health*
  • Westfund Health Insurance*
  • Australian Unity*
  • Medibank Private*
  • NIB Funds (AAMI, ING, Suncorp, Qantas Health Insurance)

The Metabolic Balance Program that I offer in my clinic is also recognised by the following health funds (but do remember, that the 1:1 clinical consultations that I offer as part of the MB program may be eligible for rebates as per above)

  • BUPA
  • AHM
  • Mildura Health Fund

I would love to come and see you, but I can’t afford it right now. What do you suggest? +

I recommend getting in touch with The Practice Wellbeing Centre. This is the onsite clinic at Torrens University where I studied and spent a year seeing patients before graduating. They offer appointments with student clinicians in a supervised setting at a very affordable price.

Is there parking near your clinic? +

Yes, there is plenty of street parking (metered and unmetered). I recommend arriving at least 10 minutes earlier for parking in the off-street unmetered areas if you have booked an initial or follow up consultation. For public transport directions to the clinic, download the Opal AppOpal App to help you plan your trip.

How do I access any supplements and/or nutraceuticals you prescribe during my appointment? +

I use several online dispensaries to ensure I’m not limited in what I can prescribe, and I only prescribe practitioner grade products. All of the dispensaries that I work with offer quick delivery turnarounds to your home for your convenience.

Need to cancel / re-schedule an appointment? +

Simply login to your Practice Better patient account. Do remember a 100% cancellation fee applies for appointments thar are cancelled within 24 hours and for no-shows. Refunds will be provided as outlined under Australian Consumer Laws.

I had booked a face to face appointment, but I’m not feeling well enough to come in for my appointment and it was for today. +

No problem, just pop into your Practice Better account, and request a change to your appointment ‘location’ (ie telehealth) and I will see you online!

Other Questions

BIS v BIA v DEXA - What do all these acronyms mean and which test is best for me? +

I operate a BIS (Bio-Impedance Spectroscopy) in my clinic, and you can read about why here.

I would like to know more about your qualifications and work experience. +

Years ago, before becoming a mum, I earned my Bachelor of Property Economics (UTS) and undertook postgraduate finance studies as well. I worked in property for almost 20 years, managing staff and major Sydney CBD commercial assets. I was 25 years of age, held the title of General Manager, and that’s when I realised, I cared more about the people in my team, than the shiny assets I was responsible for.

I started my family, and the shine of the corporate life started to diminish. My mum instincts kicked up a notch, and the ugly side of the corporate life became more apparent. Colleagues struggling with mental health issues, chronic disease and stress, not to mention the unsafe / unethical / toxic work environments I was exposed to… once I recognised it, I couldn’t ignore it.

Rather than letting it all get to me. I devised my exit strategy.

First I become qualified as a personal trainer (both Cert III and IV) and then I decided to dip my toes into the health coaching space, completing courses with Cyndi O’Meara’s The Nutrition Academy and with, John Berardi’s Precision Nutrition. While working as a health coach, I continued my studies, first with the Australian Catholic University completing a Bachelor of Science (Nutrition Science) , followed by a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Nutrition at Torrens University.

Since completing my formal studies, I have undertaken over 500 hours (and counting!) of additional training spanning, genetic testing, hormone and gut function, functional pathology analysis & interpretation, and beyond!

Of note, I hold the following additional qualifications

And, I haven’t stopped furthering my knowledge. The requirement to maintain membership with my professional body is 20 CPD points a year, but on average I spend 5-10 hours a week on additional research and training (1 hour of training = 1 CPD). Here’s a list of the topics / areas I have been exploring. Expect this list to grow as I continue to nerd out ;)

Why don’t you share testimonials on your website or socials? +

As an allied health professional, I adhere to AHPRAs Code of Conduct (Non-Registered Health Practitioners). We follow the same rule as AHPRA regulated health professionals – you won’t see testimonials on your GPs website, and the same applies for us CPN’s – Certified Practicing Nutritionists.

I’m a health provider / supplier looking to connect +

If you are a like-minded health practitioner or operate in the health space and looking to connect, let’s chat! Full disclosure, the referrals I make are always based on the clinical needs of my patients, and always in their best interests (that means I will never ask for a referral fee, and neither should you!).

Simply login to your HealthBank Profile. Remember, a 100% cancellation fee applies to cancellations within 24 hours or no-shows. Refunds will be provided as outlined under Australian Consumer Laws.

I had booked a face to face appointment, but I’m not feeling well enough to come in for my appointment and it was for today. +

No problem, just pop into HealthBank and change your appointment ‘location’ to a telehealth and I will see you online.

Other Questions

BIS v BIA v DEXA - What do all these acronyms mean and which test is best for me? +

I operate a BIS (Bio-Impedance Spectroscopy) in my clinic, and you can read about why here.

I would like to know more about your qualifications and work experience. +

After becoming qualified as a personal trainer (both Cert III and IV), I decided to dip my toes into the health coaching space, completing courses with The Nutrition Academy and with Precision Nutrition. While working as a health coach, I continued my studies, first with the Australian Catholic University completing a Bachelor of Science (Nutrition Science) , followed by a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Nutrition at Torrens University.

Why don’t you share testimonials on your website or socials? +

As an allied health professional, it is considered unethical and a big no-no to share my patient’s health journeys (including my own!). You can find out more inside our Code of Conduct (Non-Registered Health Practitioners).
